Diaframma: il muscolo della vita
COS’È?
Il diaframma è il più efficiente tra i muscoli respiratoti nell’uomo, con la sua azione espandendo la gabbia toracica permette l’inspirazione.
Ma questo muscolo è molto di più, Andrew Taylor Still, padre dell’osteopatia e grande conoscitore dell’anatomia umana, descrivendo il diaframma toracico disse:
Ha una forma di cupola, laminare ed impari. Si trova al centro del corpo e divide la cavità toracica da quella addominale. Nella parte superiore ha rapporti diretti sia con i polmoni che con il cuore, infatti sul diaframma è possibile distinguere le impronte dei foglietti pleurici e del foglietto pericardico mentre nella parte inferiore ha rapporti anatomici con il fegato, lo stomaco e con il rene sinistro.
Data la centralità della sua posizione e il suo movimento, il diaframma è in grado di alterare la pressione a livello addominale e aiuta il corpo nell’espletare alcune funzioni fondamentali che tra poco vedremo.
FUNZIONI
Funzione primaria:
Respirazione: come detto già prima il diaframma è fondamentale per questa funzione. Quando si contrae, il muscolo si abbassa comprimendo i visceri (ecco perché si “gonfia la pancia” durante la respirazione diaframmatica): questo provoca un aumento del diametro laterale della gabbia toracica, ed il conseguente riempirsi dei polmoni. Durante la espirazione, il diaframma si rilassa e si “alza”. Per poter fare tutto questo, il diaframma sfrutta un importante “punto di ancoraggio”, ovvero la colonna vertebrale.
